Meet Dru Robinett, Principal
Hello, Sycamore Springs Students, Families, and Community Members:

I am thrilled to be appointed as the founding principal of Sycamore Springs Elementary School! What an amazing experience we have in store!  With our Fall 2017 opening, we will embark on an exciting and critically important endeavor to build a vibrant and engaging learning community for our Tigers. I joined Dripping Springs in the Fall of 2016, when the campus was not yet named.  Dripping Springs ISD holds a great reputation for its student-centered and innovative approach to learning, and the generous community support here is well-known as well. I can already attest to this first hand and look forward to meeting our Sycamore Springs families, students, and community members as we work together in the coming weeks, months, and years! We will definitely need all hands on deck.

I am originally from New Orleans, La., and I graduated from Tulane University.  I moved to Texas to begin my teaching career in 1991 as an elementary bilingual teacher in Houston. When my husband, David, and I moved to Austin for him to attend UT for law school, I worked as a teacher and administrator in Round Rock ISD and was later appointed as the principal of Zavala Elementary in Austin.  During that time, I likewise pursued my doctorate in Educational Leadership at The University of Texas at Austin.  I am a mom to two great high-schoolers, Emily and Grant.  They bring great joy and laughter into our home! For a few years when my children were young, I worked for UT-Austin as an Assistant Clinical Professor in Educational Leadership and the Principalship Program  I have always enjoyed working with and developing other people as learners and leaders—of course, that includes those from 5 to 95!

Most recently, I had the great fortune to serve for 10 years as the founding principal of Nan Clayton Elementary in the Circle C West area of Austin ISD. I was the first person hired at Clayton, and I started off there with a set of architectural plans and a hard hat. Needless to say, I relished the opportunity to bring together students, educators, and families to form a student-centered, highly successful, and engaged learning community from the ground up. It was an honor to serve as Clayton’s principal for more than a decade.

The opportunity to be a part of the DSISD family and to serve at Sycamore Springs as the founding principal and a key partner and facilitator in helping us design and implement new and creative ideas, traditions, and forward-thinking approaches to student learning from the ground up was something I simply could not pass up! I find great energy in the ideas of others (most of all, children). These key opportunities for transition are both exciting and infectious, and I simply cannot wait to truly begin working together with newly hired teachers and staff, parents, and community members on behalf of all of our students and the Sycamore Springs community.

Please join me as we begin to develop strong and meaningful relationships with our students and their families. I sincerely value the tremendous trust that parents place in us as educators, and I make it a priority that students know that they are loved, safe, and important in their school. This same dedication holds true for my relationships with the amazing educators I have come into contact with and those who will join us to team up for this important journey. Thank you, in advance, to the parents and community members who will roll up their sleeves to help us make this school an amazing place for our children. It takes all of us working together to develop our community with strong bonds to form a vibrant Sycamore Springs Elementary School family!

Syc ‘em, Sycamore Springs!  Go Tigers!
